Jeff H. and I decided that it was worth an exploratory trip down to Chico to see if there were any fish to be found. We met up at 11 am to fish the afternoon tide and arrived at the creek a little after noon. We had a few hours before the low at 3 pm. Looking down below the spillway there were some fish stacked up along with Coho. Probably numbered 50/50 Chum to Coho, was nice to see that there are Coho also spawning in the Chum grounds. In the bay to the west many bright Coho jumpers could be seen along with some small schools of Chum that were being coralled by a pair of seals in the bay. I think the fish were seriously spooked as they never made it into the creek as it was running very low and clear. This along with a smaller tide exchange wouldn’t give enough pressure on the fish to make the run up the creek. Jeff was fortunate to have connected with one decent hen on his cerise colored bionic bloodworm pattern. Nice day to get out, enjoy the colors on the trees, sunshine on our faces and calm and pleasant weather. We’ll give it a few days as this fishery gets going by Halloween.
