There is a little known fishery which I was fortunate enough to have been invited to go with the owner of my brokerage. With a week before Christmas and most river fishermen thinking about places like the Cowlitz and the S Rivers its nice to find chrome bright salmon within a relative short drive of where we live.
I met Dave D., Bob F., and Ken at 5:45 in Federal Way and we headed out towards the river where we met Rob, our guide. I’d never been in a jet sled on a river before and was interested to see how it works and the dynamics around it. There are a lot of moving parts, and logistics around river fishing and I am glad that its not something I want to pursue.
After fishing it’s nice to not have to pull a boat, clean fish, and or sort tackle and hardware. Our guide Rob worked hard to ensure we had a good day in the water and made me appreciate the hard work and preparation.
While the weather was cool and it’d snowed the morning we mostly had the river to ourselves and had the bonus of catching a few fish. We ended up netting 11 Coho and out of those I landed 7, released at hens and darker fish and keeping the bucks and the brighter silvers.
