Our first successful outing for the stinky, slimy poor mans tarpon of the Columbia river. I had done previous trips without knowledge of run timing and location. However, on some sound advice from a good shad fisherman we ventured down to try our luck. This year would be special as I would invite my dad and oldest son (4.5) to join on a 3 generation camping and fishing trip.
We had a blast! Camping alongside the river and awaking to very decent shad fishing with a medium weight rod with 10# power pro braid to our shad darts. The best fishing was in the mornings and casting a drifting out maintaining good tension in the line and swinging the darts.
Nearby sights and locally grown cherry farms and orchards provided some nice alternatives to fishing. What a nice way to spend and easy for Sr. And Jr. I spend out camping and fishing. We’ll be back next year!
