We had a few days off for the Presidents holiday and the kids mid winter break. The outstanding weather forecast and timing couldn’t have been better for the previous days smelt dip and the approved digs in Long Beach.
This was our first trip to the tourist town and it was very memorable with walks to Cape Disappointment Lighthouse and North Head Lighthouse. Some amazing views of the Columbia River bar and the rhythmic waves, sand, surf and winds.
This was my mom’s first attempt at Razor Clam digging and she loved it. She was a pro in no time as she was able to find these bivalves in no time. The kids had a blast too and taking very active roles in digging and enjoying the beach life. I still believe the best tasting clams came from Copalis beach near Moclips. Those mossy rocks were large, sweet and savory. Unforgettable goods.

Both boys did great!
Dinner of poached clams and seaweed soup in a clam based stock
A nice example of a show
I tried my hand at some surf perch fishing but the crabs were relentless nabbing the bait and not allowing the fish a chance to bite.
Perhaps the smallest razor clam!
