Never would I want to be in a place without the 4-seasons. What a fabulous fall day with the crisp morning air on my hike to the river and the leaves spiralling down preparing for the shift in weather. While we can’t rely on this Indian summer weather to hold on, gotta make it count. This is liquid therapy for me!
After dropping off the kids, I was already geared up and ready to roll. Traffic wasn’t too bad and my plan was to revisit the spot where I’d lost the big winter run from the day prior. It haunts me at night knowing what could have been and replaying the events of that fish going airborne.
After some pounding of the familiar spots I was engaged with a hot fish, while it was small it didn’t lack spirit and resembled a small football with its girth and tightly thrown spiral strength.
Not long after, I hooked into another one, about the same size but not as feisty. Good stuff! 2 steelhead caught and released!!!
I moved spots and went up steam to swing my flies but after many more whitefish I did end up fair hooking a big buck chum of 18-20#. Very big to handle on my 6 wt. rod, but he succumbed and was quickly release back to do his thing.
I’ve tied up a few more leaders and consideing another run at it tomorrow. I love you Fall!
