My schedule has been so variable these days and to be able to commit a full day to fishing this time of year is a tough thing to do.
I usually like to make a trip to Eastern WA in early April but life happens and the annual run didn’t happen.
While chasing blackmouth is nice getting back to basics with a pram and a box of flies is just as therapeutic if not downright relaxing. The water has a calming affect even if it’s just a local neighborhood Lake.
We pulled the 10′ Almarco out of storage and strung up a chronomid rod and decided to soak them at nearby Meridian Lake in Kent. While its not the most scenic locations with the houses around the lake and water skiers and wake boarders zipping around in their ski boats.
I didn’t complain too much as the action was decent and the trout eager to Tse down our offerings. The black over red ribbed snowcone was the lucky fly of the day.
While we only fished for 3 hours, it was perfect. I landed 5 trout ranging from 08″ to 11″ along with a couple of yellow perch that were in spawning mode.
Phil wrangled a few trout too, we got to catch up and chat and shared in a few laughs. Good times and decent fishing. While its not quality fishing, a tug is the drug.
