What a fabulous day on the reef as we roped in several very nice fish. Winds, tides and weather were just about perfect for a bottom fish outing. Jeff and I had some time to spend on the fly bench developing patterns using skull heads and large barbell eyes to help out flies develop the jigging action these fish crave.
We had two sets of doubles immediately and my first drift I hooked and landed 4 very nice rockfish up to 6#.
We were dredging bottom with our customer built Rio lines. I’ve added small piece of heat shrink tubing at 20′ intervals so I can know how much line to strip out in order to achieve the proper depth and presentation.
The winds were calm from the North Northwest and was just the right speed for us to achieve a 45 degree angle with our fly lines. This fishery keeps getting better ad the crowds die down and the pressure for Ling cod brings out those active hunters.
Jeff and I were high-5-ing the 4-hours we spent on the water. What a great day on the water!
