I love the seasons of summer leading into the fall. It’s been a great weather year so far, even a bit too warm for my comfort. However, no complaints here as it won’t be long until the boys are back in school and the carefree days on the water and time in the swimming pool will be captured in a blog post.
I found a good clamming beach close to the house and it’s yielded some very nice sized Manila clams. My wife is an excellent gatherer and had a knack for finding the tasty and plump bivalves. We devoured them under a garlic and black style steam. With red, yellow peppers and white onion. The bonus ingredient was lots of fresh baby dill. Oh my goodness, its shellfish nirvana!
The crabbing has picked up as well and the larger ones have been seen in about 50-60′ of water. The secret bait is crushed horse clams crushed and thrown into the bait cages. The dungeness go nuts for the scent of a Clam. Once they enter the pot they were treated to some sockeye carcass before yielding to the cleaning table and an hot bath.
Summer is about Al Fresco dining with family, friends and some time in the swimming pool.
