As summer winds down, the crowds and fishing usually heats up. This year was a bust for coho fishermen due to the poor ocean conditions that led to closures on the ocean apart from area 1 (Ilwaco) and area 12 (Hood canal). With the short 2.5 week king salmon selective fishery that came and went were left to make lemonade with the lemon that the state and tribes handed to us sport fishermen.
I wonder what the future holds for the next generation of anglers. Will they even be able to pursue salmon and steelhead? Or will it be about flounder and ratfish? Might as well make the most of it and share my passion with my loved ones. The kids had a great couple of days: crabbing, clamming, swimming, and mountain biking. It was a perfect evening to pull pots with the water as calm as glass!
Area 12 Coho action is heating up and I’ll try to salvage the salmon season with chasing these silvers of the sea. They were the best coho that I can recall. On the smaller side, but packed with flavor and oils.
Marinated with a little sea salt, garlic, old bay seasoning, and pan friend in lemon butter. Simply delicious and the kids love it!
Nigori sake manillas with basil. Life is good, and even though it’s lemonade. It still quenches the thirst. Life is good!
