I haven’t been fishing for over a month, it was nice to hear that the WDFW was going to stock Beaver Lake with their broodstock trout. These are alot of fun to target with the 5 wt. fly rod and intermediate lines. While it might not be very sporting and serene, it was nice to get on the water and give the rod and gear a good workout.
Fish were impressive and some had quite a bit of spunk and fight to them. Finding time midweek is tough between work and kids, it’s nice that it’s just a 30 minute drive.
Best action came with an hour glass eyes chartreuse clouser minnow in size 8 and with a Moyer steelhead candy bar. Essentially a pink hit head bead shucking egg pattern. We saw Tom E. on the water and he was using an indicator and fly and did pretty well when the fish were dumped for as few minutes.
While I know these trout make for a nice dinner, I opted to save then for winter crab bait since I have plenty of salmon in the deep freezer. Heres a nice write up from the Eastside News along with video of the planting, we can be seen at 3:35, 4:40, and 5:11 if you want to skip to our 4 seconds of fame.
