I was crazy enough to want to get back to Cypress for another shot at the Atlantic salmon. When would you get a twice in a lifetime opportunity to target these fish in our Pacific waters?! I can sleep when I’m dead.
Today Phil K. would join as he couldn’t make it out on the Fridays bonanza. There werent as many boats as two days prior but the nets were out in force and even one gill netter managed to nose in between us and dragged us off anchor.
Phil did managed to land his first Atlantic salmon and I got 6. Since it was mostly devoid of the larger schools we decided to call it quits around 3 pm and left for home.
The best lure were 3.5 oz Pt. Wilson darts in white and 1.5 rotators with upgraded 3/0 Matzuo sickle hooks on a 150# stainless swivel.
I haven’t had a chance to try any of the fish but my parents have and attest that it’s better than any of the other salmon I’ve harvested. I’ll be smoking up the majority of my share and looking forward to even trying some poke and sashimi after a nice hard freeze for a few days.
