I organized an impromptu gathering last night with some friends. Sun Y., Ben L., David and his son Charlie K., along with squid newbie and David’s co-worker Hambum (spp?), and Dov Y. made it out for some hot Aquarium action.
It started slow but the weather was pleasant, no wind, rain and calm seas with temps in the mid to upper 40’s. We all had a handful of squid and flurries of better action around 9-10 pm. It got ‘white hot’ from 23:00-23:40. Had a squid on every cast with doubles and a couple triples.
I ended up with 10.5#, Sun got 69 pieces or about 9#, the other guys did ok a little less but everyone had a great time with no crowds and had the pretty much free choice of the dock. Seal came up and shut it down, but by then we were pretty much done and ready to go home.
Its nice having the new light system and my $12 radio flier cart picked up off Craiglist and so nice to be able to roll everything out to the dock. I just installed a Sea Dog two rod holder with knife Bay on the end, so I can haul it all in one trip.
With this new bit of action, I may consider making a few more trips in case anyone wants to give it a try or join up. I am finding this the ebb lows are actually better times to squid versus the flood times. There was a negative tide at 01:24 Saturday morning and the reason why it was so hot right at 23:00-23:40 during the point of current movement.
